Silversquare, the pioneering force in the Belgian co-working scene, is setting its sights on a new frontier with the commencement of construction at Silversquare Louvain-la-Neuve. Following the official inauguration of its first Walloon space, Silversquare Guillemins, just a few months ago in Liège, the brand is now making significant strides in the Walloon region.
Located in the heart of the academic city of Louvain-la-Neuve in Brabant Wallon, this 4,000-square-meter, two-story co-working space is expected to open its doors in 2024. The project launch was celebrated with a symbolic cornerstone-laying ceremony, attended by key local influencers and media.
Silversquare's expansion into Louvain-la-Neuve is not by chance but by design. This vibrant city, known for its prestigious university, boasts a thriving ecosystem of research and development. With an influx of researchers and students, it's a breeding ground for innovation and entrepreneurship. The presence of university spin-offs has fueled a dynamic science park, home to numerous high-tech companies, particularly in biotechnology, ICT, and engineering.
According to Alexandre Ponchon, co-founder of Silversquare, "The existence of a modern business park and the establishment of leading companies further enhance Louvain-la-Neuve's status as an economic hub. These companies, as well as those considering establishing themselves here, not only have easy access to highly skilled talent from the university but also solid connections to research and innovation."
Silversquare Louvain-la-Neuve's interior design will be curated by a duo of artists, Dutch designer Lilian van Daal and Brussels-based sculptor and scenographer Théo Demans. Their vision for the space promises to infuse elements of utopia and dystopia, creating a thought-provoking atmosphere.
The concept, orchestrated by Silversquare architects Dimitri Goloubev and Julie Van Huynegem in collaboration with Lilian and Théo, draws inspiration from current climate issues and how humanity will adapt in the future. They explore two contrasting yet positively presented answers to this question: utopia and dystopia.
Lilian van Daal is a Dutch designer renowned for her work in biomimicry, the art and science of imitating nature's best biological ideas through technology. She believes that "biomimicry is the art (and science) of imitating nature's best ideas with technology to make human applications more sustainable. 3D printing is a great example."
Lilian's work revolves around mimicking nature's intricate designs and incorporating sustainable, bio-sourced materials, such as those derived from agricultural waste. Her creations aim to be resilient, durable, and low-maintenance. In this project, her designs will embrace natural forms to create a sense of connection with the environment, promoting well-being and reducing stress.
Théo Demans, a sculptor and scenographer based in Brussels, is responsible for the dystopian aspect of the project. With a background in theater and cinema set design, he is passionate about creating eco-friendly and circular elements. Théo seeks to reflect the positive aspects of dystopia rather than focusing on resource scarcity and negativity. He draws inspiration from unconventional designs, such as spaceships, using recycled materials to bring his vision to life.
Silversquare Louvain-la-Neuve, located on Boulevard de Wallonie (exact address: Courbevoie 13), will feature two lunch areas, private offices, meeting rooms, open spaces with phone booths for private calls, dedicated workspaces, and alcoves with separate tables.
Stay tuned for more updates on Silversquare Louvain-la-Neuve as we blend the visionary with the practical, creating a space that encourages innovation and collaboration in the heart of Louvain-la-Neuve.
